Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
Tether ("we", "our", or "us") is a web application that helps you maintain meaningful relationships by reminding you to stay in touch with the people who matter. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. By using Tether, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of Tether.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information: email address, display name, first name.
Relationship Data: contact names, relationship types, cadence preferences, interaction logs (type, date, optional notes), birthdays and personal notes. This data is stored solely to power your reminders and relationship health view and is never analyzed for advertising.
Usage Data: basic technical and usage data to operate and improve the service.
3. How We Use Your Information
To provide and operate the Tether service.
To send daily digest emails and reminders you have opted into.
To generate AI-powered conversation starters based on your contact notes.
To communicate with you about your account.
To improve the product based on aggregate, anonymised usage patterns.
4. Third-Party Services
Supabase: used for authentication and database storage, SOC 2 compliant.
Anthropic (Claude API): AI starters can appear when you view a contact who has notes (or a recent interaction note); relevant context is sent to the Anthropic Claude API. Per Anthropic's usage policy, data submitted via the API is not used to train their models.
Stripe: payment processing, Tether never stores your credit card information directly.
Brevo: used to deliver daily digest emails and transactional notifications.
5. AI-Powered Features
AI conversation starters can appear when you view a contact who has notes (or a recent interaction note). We use the Anthropic Claude API and send relevant context (contact name, relationship type, notes) to generate suggestions. Per Anthropic's terms, data sent through their API is not used to train their models. Suggestions are AI-generated and are not guarantees—they may occasionally be inaccurate or feel off; use your judgment.
6. No Sale of Data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing or commercial purposes. Ever.
7. Data Storage and Retention
Your account data is retained for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, your personal data and relationship records will be permanently deleted within 30 days. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings, under Account. If you cannot access your account, email hello@staytether.app for assistance.
8. Your Rights
Access: download a copy of the personal data we hold, from Settings under Privacy and data.
Correction: update your information directly in app settings.
Deletion: permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings, under Account.
Portability: export your relationship data as a JSON file from Settings, under Privacy and data.
Most of these are available directly in Settings. For anything else, or if you cannot access your account, contact hello@staytether.app.
9. Children's Privacy
Tether is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Security
Industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), secure authentication via Supabase Auth, and row-level security on our database. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Tether after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
These Terms of Service govern your use of Tether. By using Tether, you agree to these terms.
2. Using Tether
Tether is a personal relationship reminder tool intended for keeping in touch with real people you know.
Account use:
You must be at least 13 years old to use Tether.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password.
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you add about your contacts.
Content behavior:
Do not use Tether for spam, harassment, or any activity that would harm others.
Do not attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or otherwise misuse the platform.
Data ownership:
You own your data.
Tether does not claim any rights to your contact information, relationship notes, or interaction logs.
We will never sell your data or use it to serve you advertisements.
3. Information About Other People
Tether lets you store notes, dates, and other information about people in your life who are not Tether users. You are responsible for the accuracy of this information and for having a reasonable basis to store it. Do not use Tether to store information about someone in a way that would violate their privacy or any law that applies to you or to them.
4. Pricing
Tether may offer both free and paid tiers. Your current tier and its features are shown in your account settings. We will notify you before any change to your existing plan's pricing.
If you have a paid subscription, billing is handled by Stripe. You can manage or cancel through the subscription portal in settings when available. We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods unless required by law.
5. Your Data
You may sign out of your account at any time. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings, under Account. Deletion is completed within 30 days, consistent with our Privacy Policy. If you cannot access your account, contact us at hello@staytether.app for assistance.
AI-generated conversation starters are not professional advice. Tether is not liable for actions you take based on them.
6. Service Availability
Tether is provided as-is. We will do our best to keep the service running reliably, but we cannot guarantee 100% uptime. We are not liable for any loss of data, missed reminders, AI suggestion outcomes, or damages arising from use of the service.
6a. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Tether's total liability to you for any claims arising from or relating to these Terms or your use of Tether exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid Tether in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) fifty US dollars ($50). This limitation applies to all claims, whether based in contract, tort, negligence, or any other legal theory. In no event shall we be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses.
6b. Circumstances Beyond Our Control
We are not liable for delays or failures in performance caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to internet or telecommunications outages, failures of third-party service providers (including but not limited to Supabase, Vercel, Brevo, Stripe, Upstash, and Anthropic), acts of government, natural disasters, or other force majeure events.
7. Intellectual Property
All content, design, and code within Tether is owned by Tether and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute any part of the product without written permission.
8. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
9. Changes to These Terms
If we make significant changes to these terms, we will notify you by email before they take effect. Continued use of Tether after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
10. Your Responsibility for Claims
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Tether, its founders, employees, and affiliates from and against any claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, or attorneys' fees arising from: (a) your violation of these Terms; (b) your violation of any third-party right, including the privacy rights of people whose information you store in Tether; (c) any content or information you submit to Tether; or (d) your use of Tether in any manner that violates applicable law.
11. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
